2008 Olympic Mascots - Fuwa

Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying and Nini, also known as Fuwa are the official mascots for the Beijing Olympics 2008.

Their color and inspiration carry messages of friendship and peace, as well as good wishes from China. Their color and inspiration come from the Five Olympic Rings and have been created inspired on China’s most popular animals, the fish, the panda, the Tibetan antelope, the swallow and the Olympic flame.

BEIJING - China said Thursday that it had uncovered a plot by members of a Muslim minority group to sabotage the Beijing Summer Olympics with suicide bombings and kidnappings of foreign visitors. IOC chief: Olympics in 'crisis' over torch chaos

BEIJING - IOC president Jacques Rogge said Thursday the turmoil surrounding the Beijing torch relay and the politically charged buildup to the Summer Games posed a "crisis'' for the Olympic movement. Rogge urged China to respect its "moral engagement'' to improve human rights and to fulfill promises of greater media freedom. He reaffirmed the right of free speech for athletes at the Beijing Games.
